JON Barnes was crowned Strada Contractors Hampshire Open king on Friday, and in doing so completed a nap hand of Hampshire PGA majors.

Played at Alresford Golf Club, with the course in pristine condition, the 36-year-old triumphed by three shots from Southwood's Chris Hudson after rounds of 67 and 68 (-3).

Added to previous victories in the Hampshire PGA Championship, Meachers Masters Championship, ERIF (UK) Hampshire PGA Match Play Championship and the Hampshire PGA Short Course Championship, the Sherfield Oaks professional now has a complete set of county PGA major victories.

Up against 42 of the top professionals from the county and 15 of the area's best amateurs, Barnes admitted that the ace in his pack' was experience.

"I'm delighted to have won - I've got the full set of majors now," said the Hamble resident. "I didn't play my best but scored well and managed to avoid the big scores. My experience really came in handy."
