George Burley has told Sheffield Wednesday that Grzegorz Rasiak is not for sale.

Reports yesterday suggested Wednesday had tabled a £2m offer for Rasiak but that is wide of the mark.

Wednesday boss Brian Laws contacted Burley to ask about the Polish striker's availability but was told he will be staying at Saints.

Rasiak was last season's top scorer for Saints, netting 21 goals, but fell out of favour in the final third of the campaign where he was often used from the bench.

Despite that he still figures in Burley's plans with the Saints boss reluctant to lose another one of his star names this summer after the high profile departures of Gareth Bale and Chris Baird.

He said: "They haven't made any bid because I've told Brian Laws certainly now I'm not looking to sell him.

"You could say we've lost two of our best players and that has eased our financial worries and it had to be done but we don't want to lose any more.

"You always get speculation but I've told Grzegorz I don't want to sell him.

"We've lost Leon Best in the summer and have still got a healthy competition for places but we need everybody we can.

"We've had to sell two of our best players from last season in Gareth Bale and Chris Baird and we've lost Leon Best and those three players are big misses to our squad and we can't afford to weaken the squad any further".
