IF Saints can keep Claus Lundekvam and Darren Powell fit, they stand a good chance of doing well this season.
The defensive duo both made it back onto the pitch for last night's 4-1 win over Kvik Halden and both showed what they have to offer.
Powell, who has been troubled by a series of injuries since joining the club over two years ago, played in the first half and delivered a typical Powell performance.
He was big, strong, good in the air, physically dominant, a leader, an organiser.
He's uncomplicated and unfussy but he does a job effectively and, in the Championship, he is the type of player you need.
Lundekvam, in his first action since getting injured in the final league game of 2006/07, played the final 20 minutes.
His mere presence out there made a difference to the team.
In such a small and quiet setting, it was easy to see just what he offers. He is, of course, calmness personified but has a wonderful quality that really good centre halves develop as they get older.
Adam Leitch gives his verdict on Saints' progress in today's Daily Echo.
