GEORGE Burley was pleased with his experiment of playing Andrew Surman in the centre of midfield against Kvik Halden last night.
The 20-year-old, who was used last season on either the left or right of midfield, was given a central role for the 4-1 win in Norway and impressed his manager.
He played most of his football last night in the impressive first half performance in which Saints scored all four of their goals - rather than the more lacklustre second half where they took their foot off the gas a little.
Burley said: "There's a few positives I was very pleased with.
"We tried Andrew Surman in the centre of midfield and he did very well in that position.
"There are still one or two areas we need to fill before the start of the season. We've got a good spirit but we need to add more quality to it."
