CHERRIES new boy Paul Telfer is hoping Kevin Bond's mix of "fresh blood and old heads" will be a recipe for success during the coming season.

The former Saints and Celtic star admits he has been "impressed" with Bond's squad after spending his first week training with his new team-mates at Canford School.

Telfer said: "I've been looking at some of the lads in training and thinking to myself why aren't you playing at a higher level?' "Kevin is trying to put a team together and hopefully we will give a good account of ourselves when the season starts.

"The financial restrictions are well documented but he's got a good network of contacts and some of the young players look very promising.

"You've got to look on the positive side because we've got a good combination of existing players, fresh blood and old heads.

"I will certainly be looking to make a good go of it here".

Telfer is set to complete a remarkable journey from the San Siro to Dean Court when he faces Saints in a pre-season friendly tomorrow (3pm kick-off).

The 35-year-old played six times for Celtic in the Champions League last season - his final appearance coming against the eventual winners AC Milan in Italy in March.
