GEORGE Burley is hoping to land a new centre half this week after admitting Claus Lundekvam is a doubt for the big kick-off.
Saints skipper Lundekvam, who has played just 65 minutes in pre-season after injuring his ankle at the end of last season, again had to sit out at the weekend as Lazio won 5-2 at St Mary's.
With Darren Powell suspended for the first three games of the season it means Saints face the prospect of starting the new campaign in 12 days time with Pele as the only recognised centre half.
However, Burley is hoping to tie up a loan signing this week to provide much needed cover in that position and is also hoping to bag a midfielder on loan as well.
He said: "Hopefully something will happen this week.
"We're working hard to bring two or three players into the squad to strengthen."
