KCS OLD BOYS 12

Eastleigh 15

Hampshire’s London 2 South-West clubs all celebrated victories just over a week ago but only Eastleigh had a smile on their face at the end of play on Saturday.

The bottom side recorded another battling victory as Andover and Gosport & Fareham were soundly beaten and Winchester annihilated just a week after recording an outstanding win.

Eastleigh produced their first away win of the season to out-wit and out-play fourth-placed KCS Old Boys – defeating the Surrey side 15-12.

The Hampshire club took the game to their opponents from the off with Russell Smith going over the line out wide.

The teams were soon locked at 5-5 after KCS crossed the whitewash and both teams missed their conversion kicks.

Eastleigh pounded the opposition’s defensive line and Phil Baldwin slotted home a penalty to take his team into an 8-5 lead at the break.

KCS pounced on a defensive mistake early in the second half and added another seven points to their tally.

However Eastleigh’s new-found confidence kept them pushing for a winning score and it came when Baldwin found a gap in the defence to go over the line and kick the extra two points.

Back row Panos Logothetis was voted Eastleigh’s man of the match.

Old Tonbridgians 88

Winchester 24

Winchester may have looked forward to a close encounter at Old Tonbridgians, who had won just one more league game than their Hampshire visitors this season.

However the Surrey side ran in 13 tries and kicked 23 points to condemn Winchester to a disappointing 88-24 defeat.

It was one of those days where Winch could do very little right and OT’s could do no wrong. As the scoreboard ran away from them, Winch players fell off the pace, contributing to the worst day at the office this season.

Winchester’s points came via tries from prop Tom Williams, Josh Tolan and Will Wood and three conversions and a penalty by Ollie Dunger.

Farnham 44

Gosport & Fareham 21

Gosport & Fareham scored three tries at Farnham but still lost out.

Skipper Wes Dugan touched down twice for Gos and flanker Max Page once. Alex Duncombe kicked the remaining points.

l Third-from-bottom Effingham & Leatherhead crept closer to Andover when they beat the All Blacks 44-17.
