George Burley will consider using Saints' hectic start to the season to make sure both his keepers are match sharp.
Saints kick-off their league campaign against Crystal Palace at St Mary's on Saturday with Bartosz Bialkowski the favourite to start between the sticks.
That is because of the lack of games played by Kelvin Davis in pre-season due to injury.
But with Saints having to travel to Peterborough in the first round of the Carling Cup just two days after facing Palace, it could give Burley an opportunity to give Davis a game.
Burley said: "I'm fortunate I've got two very good keepers.
"The only problem is that Kelvin's not really had enough games under his belt.
"He was looking good pre-season but unfortunately he got injured against Eastleigh after 20 minutes and had to recover.
"Then we were hoping he would play a full game against Millwall and got injured after 50 minutes.
"Fortunately that has settled down quickly and he got 45 minutes on Saturday (at Brentford).
"We'll look at it. I'd have liked Kelvin to get a wee bit more match practise in.
"But we have games on Saturday and Monday so we might utilise both keepers".
