Youssef Safri says he is not taking his place in the Saints team for granted.
The 30-year-old Moroccan is the club's big name signing this summer after arriving last week from Norwich.
Safri is expected to line-up for George Burley's men in the centre of midfield when Saints kick-off their league campaign against Crystal Palace at St Mary's on Saturday.
However, the midfielder insists he will not be complacent about his place in the team.
He said: "I have seen in training and in this club there are a lot of good players.
"They got to the play-offs last year and they are working hard and that's what I need to be.
"It's not going to be easy to get a place in this line-up."
