Maya Yoshida is set to spend at least a month on the sidelines after injuring his knee.
The Japanese centre half was one of three players who suffered injuries in training the day before Saints booked their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals with a win at West Brom.
He is also the worse off, with Mauricio Pellegrino predicting a lengthy period out of the squad.
Sofiane Boufal is in contention to be available again for Saturday’s game at Burnley, while Shane Long and Steven Davis should be back for the visit of Stoke.
Pellegrino said of Yoshida: “Minimum he will be four or five weeks.
“Last week I said everybody is ok and then last training session three or four players out.
“Maybe Sofiane will be involved in the team but maybe Shane and Davo have to wait another week.
“Football has this unpredictable moment and you cannot control this but hopefully in the next few weeks everybody will be alright.”
Pellegrino also gave an update on Charlie Austin, who, like Yoshida, isn’t expected back for four-five weeks.
“We are talking about this period of time,” he confirmed.
