DERBY could be weighing up a bid for Kenwyne Jones and Jhon Viafara.

Rams boss Billy Davies has confirmed he is still very interested in signing Jones after having two bids turned down.

The last bid was believed to be of £4m with a further £1m in add ons.

Davies believes a deal can be struck this week for Jones, who missed Saints' opening day thrashing by Crystal Palace yesterday because of a hamstring injury picked up in training.

"We all know a lot more firepower is required at Derby County, and we're working very hard to do that," said Davies.

"That includes Kenwyne Jones. We're obviously in discussions, and along with a number of other targets, we're hoping we can conclude some business over the next couple of days.

"We went back in on Friday to move the discussions forward, so I'm hoping over the course of the next couple of days we've some good news".

Davies also hinted at a possible interest Viafara, which was revealed by the Daily Echo last Tuesday.

"He is a very good player", said Davies of the Columbian midfielder who scored twice against Derby in the play-off semi final second leg at Pride Park last May.

"He did very well against us (in the play-offs last season), caused us a lot of problems with his pace and power, and of course he scored some good goals into the bargain".
