WHILE temperatures soared above 100 fahrenheit at the US PGA Championship in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Liphook's Sam Hutsby was turning up the heat this side of The Atlantic - sparking obvious comparisons with Hampshire's Justin Rose.
The latter enjoyed another good major championship, finishing tied 12th, but it was Hutsby who will be making room on the mantlepiece for new silverware after an astonishing week.
Last year's Spanish Amateur Championship winner had been enduring a frustrating season - his putter spoiling some excellent ball striking performances - until the short stick became red hot at St Mellion and Stoneham.
Rounds of 69, 74, 72 and 74 secured victory in the prestigious St Mellion International Amateur Trophy (Tuesday-Thursday), and just two days later the 18-year-old blitzed the field and Stoneham's testing course with scores of 67 (-5) and a record-equalling 63 (-9) to lift the Stoneham Trophy.
