IT’S NOT just the welcome end to winter and excitement of the Masters that is getting players back in the swing of it at Paultons Golf Centre.
Newly-appointed general manager Roger Tomey and his team have taken the first steps in a long-term plan to keep the popular Crown Golf fairways busy for years to come.
They have launched a much-needed men’s section, which will stage competitions during the week and at weekends, to complement their senior, junior and ladies’ groups.
The new men’s section will be led by enthusiastic pro shop manager Danny Longman who has taken on the role of captain.
Longman, who is also keen to boost Paulton’s social activities and create a friendly atmosphere in the clubhouse, said: “I want the club to be a social hub where people can come in and sit down at a table and talk to anyone – not just the usual friends that they play with.
“I believe that when the social side is running well then the rest of the club will fall into place and positive things will snowball from there.”
Member representatives have already made a list of topics they want to review to further improve the course, including local rules, out of bounds, winter rules and safety.
Manager Roger Tomey said: “We want Paultons to be a positive place to be with a vibrant atmosphere that makes people want to come and join in.
“With the launch of the men’s section, working alongside the established seniors and Ladies sections, we will continue to improve dramatically.”
Once again Paultons managed to keep all its 18 holes open during a tough winter – apart from when they were covered in thick snow – and can even boast all greens in play throughout the year.
