MOTORCYCLE racing starlet Brody Crockford has already made his mark within the British SuperBike paddock with impressive performances in the Dickies British Junior Supersport championship.
In his debut BSB season, Brody has outshone established riders in the series, designed to highlight 13-22 year-old talent, to bring him to the attention of the series organisers by being both the leading rookie and top Yamaha rider.
The 13 year-old from Blackfield has produced some outstanding results in the first four rounds of the eight-round series, including an incredible fourth place at Snetterton, to place him tenth in the championship standings at halfway.
But a spill in the last race at Knockhill, Scotland, means he will miss the next round at Thruxton, due to a fractured elbow.
“I’m absolutely gutted to be missing the Thruxton round,” said Brody. “Everything has been going so well and I feel really confident on the CPE Yamaha YZF R3.
“My performances are the result of having a great team behind me. I owe a great deal to all at CPE, Road and Racing Performance and all my sponsors - I couldn’t do it without them. I just hope the fracture heels well so I can be back as soon as possible.”
Brody’s father, ex-BSB rider John Crockford, said: “The timing of the injury isn’t ideal, but it never is!
“Brody has been pushing himself hard to make an impression, which is admirable and we are very proud, but his lack of experience means mistakes can easily be made.
“Unfortunately injuries do occur in this sport, but I’m sure he’ll recover, learn from this and carry on his steep learning curve.”
CPE Motosport team owner Simon Stevens has been impressed with his young rider.
“We knew from pre-season testing that Brody’s capable, but even we’re surprised at his ability to learn, feel for the bike and outright race pace!
“It’s important he gives time for his elbow to mend, but we’re hopeful he’ll return for round six at Silverstone in September.”
Although Brody will not be racing at Thruxton in August, CPE Motosport will be running their Superstock 1000 rider, so he will be attending to support his team
