Saints will consider loaning young striker David McGoldrick to Nottingham Forest for family reasons.
The 19-year-old hitman, who was born in the East Midlands city, has a young family in Nottingham and is keen to be nearer to them.
League One side Forest have already approached Saints about taking McGoldrick, who Saints signed from Notts County in 2004, on loan.
George Burley has had to weigh up his options with McGoldrick currently fifth choice striker but potentially promoted up the pecking order if the sale of Kenwyne Jones goes through this week.
But if Saints were to use the money from Jones to sign another forward - or if a striker came to St Mary's in any deal involving Jones - it would make sense to let McGoldrick out for the sake of his family.
A loan move would also allow him to get more games than he would if he stayed at St Mary's.
