Saints have completed the signing of Stern John as part of the deal that sees Kenwyne Jones move to Sunderland.
George Burley has managed to persuade Roy Keane to include the 30-year-old as part of the £6m deal that means Jones switches to the Stadium of Light.
He said: "Stern is a player I have known very well through the years and he's a proven goalscorer in this league.
"He would give us something a little bit different than we've got because he's very good with the ball to feet and he's a clever player."
