Bradley Wright-Phillips is hoping the departure of Kenwyne Jones will see him lose his super sub tag.
The £750,000 striker spent most of his first season at Saints coming off the bench to try and inject pace and goals late on.
But with Jones moving to Sunderland for £6m, there is a vacancy as a first choice starter up for grabs.
Wright-Phillips staked his claim with an excellent display alongside Grzegorz Rasiak against Stoke last weekend.
He said: "I don't want to be known as a super sub.
"It's not bad in a way because you are making an impression, but I do want to start. Every striker wants to play.
"Good luck to Kenwyne, who is a good player, but it's a good chance for me and hopefully I can take it.
"This is my chance to show the manager".
