Norwich manager Peter Grant has admitted he is interested in signing Wigan's former Saints defender Fitz Hall.
The Canaries are short of defensive options as captain Jason Shackell picked up an ankle injury and Ian Murray remains short of match fitness and Grant admits the 26-year-old is one of his targets.
He said "We are always interested in good players and Fitz Hall is a good player. He is one we've looked at.
"But a lot of clubs are interested in players and 90% of the time you find yourself having to pay a transfer fee as a loan fee.
"And a loan player from the Premier League would cost Premier League wages. But the search continues no matter what".
Saints paid Oldham £250,000 for Hall in the summer of 2003, only to sell him for £1.5m to Crystal Palace before the start of the 2004/05 season. Iain Dowie, the Palace boss, had been Hall's manager at Oldham.
