Former Saints star Mark Dennis was in tears of pride after watching his grandson win the Junior ABA title.
Golden Ring ABC star Danny Boardman triumphed in the U48kg category for boys born in 2004 and has now also received an England call-up.
Boardman had a tough weekend in Sheffield with the semi-finals on the Saturday and finals the following day.
His opponent in the last four was Ryan Hughes from Bolton club Jennings BC.
Boardman showed the tenacious spirit his famous grandfather was known for, boxing superbly to beat Hughes to the punch and also counterpunching like an expert to secure a unanimous win.
The final brought Boardman the challenge of a Sefton boxer in southpaw Shaun Barbanks, who had had a great win in his semi-final.
Barbank came with a very good reputation and was always going to provide a tough test.
The night before the final Boardman’s coaches mapped out a game plan which was executed perfectly as he dominated the contest with excellent shot selection to win all three rounds.
It left proud grandfather Mark, who spent four years with Saints, in tears.
There was final disappointment for Owen Sherred in the U54kg division.
Sherred was up against London champion from the much-revered Islington BC, Kyron Hughes, in the semi-final and was always in control of the contest without being at his best and got a unanimous decision.
In the final Sherred boxed Osama Mohammed from Leicester club Lions.
Mohammed represented England in last year's European championships and had won his way to the final with a first round stoppage win.
The bout was close all the way through but Sherred was just getting outworked and lost a unanimous decision.
Stevo McCarthy was also in action in the U46kg category.
He was up against scouser Harry Burke from Sefton BC. Burke made McCarthy work from the off and ran out a clear winner with the Southampton man not showing the form that had won him the Southern Counties title a few weeks previously.
The success for Golden Ring came on the back of another popular show at Testlands which boasted an impressive 14 bouts over the course of an action packed evening.
