Maya Yoshida won’t return to the Saints team for Sunday’s finale against Huddersfield.
The central defender has been sidelined by a nasty virus that has ruled him out of the last two matches and is still struggling for fitness.
With Yoshida having international commitments with Japan in the summer and Saints already safe, Ralph Hasenhuttl has taken the decision to give him further time to fully recover.
He said: “Not so far because it was a very very strong virus and so he is still not more than ten minutes on the bicycle and that’s enough for him.
“I know he has to go to the national team in June so I give him the chance to rest completely and it doesn’t make any sense to take any risk.”
Having fielded a somewhat experimental side in the 3-0 defeat at West Ham, Hasenhuttl is returning to full strength of the last match of the campaign.
“We have still one game to go at the weekend and we will have a few changes back in maybe the shape we played before and the players that played before,” he admitted.
“That means Angus is playing again and we will discuss the situation for every player after the last game and then we will take decisions of what happens to the players.”
