Southern Brave will have the chance to add a wildcard signing before the inaugural edition of The Hundred.
But with the rest of their squad now in place, the potential make-up of their first-choice XI has whetted the appetite ahead of next summer's competition.
1) David Warner (£125,000)
Becomes the latest Australian to call the Ageas Bowl his home ground. Booed throughout this year’s Ashes series, his pantomime villain role is sure to continue during The Hundred. Has vast T20 experience, the format in which he forged his reputation. Was picked ahead of Chris Gayle in the top price bracket.
2) James Vince (£100,000)
Needs no introduction for Ageas Bowl regulars. Has scored far more T20 runs than any other Hampshire player and should dovetail well with Warner.
Right-hander Vince’s stylish yet quick-scoring batsmanship allied with the power of the left-handed Warner gives Southern Brave the balance they need at the top of the order.
3) Alex Davies (£40,000)
If there is a weak link in the Southern Brave’s recruitment it looks like it might be the lack of an extra specialist batsman, but Davies has been excellent at the top of the order for Lancashire in the last couple of Vitality Blasts. Averaged 53 with a strike rate of 129 as Lancashire reached the 2018 semi-finals and was again their top scorer as they reached this year’s last eight. The Hundred will be the 25 year-old’s first franchise tournament. Tends to play as a specialist batsman now but is a wicketkeeping option alongside Ollie Pope.
4) Ollie Pope (£50,000)
Yet to score a T20 50 from 34 Vitality Blast innings for Surrey but averages 28 at a respectable strike rate (134). The 21 year-old has already played two Tests and has the class to adapt to this new shortest format. Bats at four for Surrey in the Vitality Blast so a similar position for Southern Brave is likely. Also kept wicket for Surrey in last season's Blast.
5) Andre Russell (£125,000)
The charismatic West Indies all-rounder was Southern Brave’s first signing at Sunday’s Draft and an astute one given the power of his hitting, the speed of his bowling. Has been on Hampshire’s radar in the past but his only previous taste of domestic cricket in England was a brief but impressive stint with Worcestershire in 2013. But with Jofra Archer and Delray Rawlins and Chris Jordan in the side he is sure to feel at home. The 31 year-old has 276 wickets and more than 5,000 runs in the T20 format and will relish the prospect of playing in the county synonymous with West Indies legends Malcolm Marshall and Andy Roberts.
6) Liam Dawson (£100,000)
Southern Brave adviser Mark Nicholas admits the county was disappointed to miss out on Hampshire players like Mason Crane, Kyle Abbott and Rilee Rossouw. But in Liam Dawson they have an all-rounder who knows the Ageas Bowl better than anyone and now has a wealth of experience, having excelled in the Pakistan Super League as well as the Vitality Blast for the last decade. His left-arm spin will be a very useful foil for the pace battery.
7) Ross Whiteley (£60,000)
Has been a key player in Worcestershire’s T20 success in recent seasons, helping the county win it last year and reach this year’s final. With an average of 25 and a strike rate of 144, the left-hander is a very useful number seven whose six-hitting against Hampshire in their rain-affected 2015 quarter-final at New Road will have stayed in Southern Brave manager Giles White's mind.
8) Chris Jordan (£75,000)
One of the first picks as one of the two Local Icon players, along with James Vince. The England T20 and Sussex all-rounder has vast experience having played in T20 leagues in Pakistan, New Zealand and the Caribbean as well as in the IPL and Big Bash. The Ageas Bowl has happy memories for Jordan as it was where he made his England debut in 2013. His death bowling will be invaluable as will his powerful lower-order hitting.
9) Jofra Archer (Central Contract pick)
The rising star of English and world cricket will be a huge draw for Southern Brave as the leader of its awesome pace attack. After his World Cup heroics and an exciting debut Test series with England during this season’s Ashes series, Archer is a huge signing who has already played in the IPL and the Big Bash.
10) Shadab Khan (£75,000)
The Pakistani leg-spinner, 21, has already played 43 ODIs, 35 T20 internationals and five Tests. Turns the ball a long way, has several variations and can also bat.
11) Tymal Mills (£60,000)
A short-form specialist because of a rare back condition, but still capable of 90mph bullets.
As well as pace the left-armer provides variety to the attack and is one of five Sussex players in the squad.
Craig Overton (£30,000)
England and Somerset all-rounder who has an excellent record at The Ageas Bowl. May struggle to win a regular place given the strength of the pace resources but his lower-order hitting is another string to his bow.
George Garton (£40,000)
Highly-rated left-arm fast bowler from Sussex who has come through the county’s youth ranks. The 22-year-old ill be ideal back-up to Tymal Mills.
Delray Rawlins (£50,000)
Sussex’s young Bermudan showed what he could do with a 41-ball 69 against Gloucestershire at Hove in last season’s Vitality Blast. The slow left-armer will also learn plenty from Liam Dawson.
Max Waller (£30,000)
The second Somerset player to be added provides a valuable extra leg-spin option alongside Shadab Khan.
