Southampton's James Ward-Prowse reflects on the Arsenal draw

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side were dealt a hammer blow when Alexandre Lacazette struck home in the 95th minute to earn the Gunners a 2-2 draw.

Despite this, Ward-Prowse, who scored a second half goal at the Emirates Stadium, is certain the club can take momentum into Saturday’s vital match at home to Watford.

Speaking to the Souhtampton FC website, Ward-Prowse said: "We dominated the game, although we didn't have a lot of the ball.

"We put them under pressure and you could feel around the stadium the effect we were having on the game.

"Unfortunately, we weren't clinical enough in the last 20 minutes to put the game to bed.

"We were brave out of possession, we pressed high and wanted to be on the front foot. 

“We certainly caused them problems, but obviously we're kicking ourselves after conceding so late.

"In the position we are, people might mistake us as timid, or not up for the fight, but you could see against Arsenal that we have confidence in ourselves to play the way we want to play."

Ward-Prowse’s appearance at the Emirates was his 250th top-flight game for the club he’s been at since the age of eight.

In that time, he’s been a part of great highs, the Europa League being one, but also many lows.

The last two seasons have seen Saints battle against the drop, with it looking ever more likely that this campaign will be another slog.

However, the St Mary’s outfit have a run of five winnable games coming up that can change everything.

They’ll play Watford, Norwich, Newcastle, West Ham and Aston Villa.

The first two of those ties are at home, and Ward-Prowse knows that Saints need to buck the trend of their woeful St Mary’s form and pick up some valuable points.

"We have to try and win our home games as well because that will be key to us staying in this league,” he reflected.

"It's a building block for us, to kick on from here. We have winnable games coming up, so it's an exciting time.”
