FORMER Saints manager Ronald Koeman took to Twitter to thank everyone for their support after undergoing a heart procedure last Sunday.

The Dutchman, who left St Mary's to join Everton in 2016, was taken to hospital where he underwent cardiac catheterisation after complaining of chest pains.

That involves the placement of a long, thin tube into a vein or artery and is typically performed without general anaesthetic.

Koeman was sent home to recover on Monday and used social media to show his gratitude for the warm messages he received.

The current Holland manager tweeted: "It was fantastic for me to see how many people showed compassion.

"And how many sweet messages I have received.

"From acquaintances from the football world, from clubs.

"But also from complete strangers.

"That really meant a lot to me and I would like to thank everyone for that!"

Koeman led Saints to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League in 2016 which also resulted in a record 63 points and Europa League qualification.

Despite the heart scare, the Dutchman insists he's feeling back to his best.

"Meanwhile I feel fit as a fiddle again," he added.

"And that means that I will be back giving it my all, as soon as the ball starts rolling again.

"Once again: Thank you to everyone who supported me.

"We'll meet again soon!"
