FROM jeers to cheers then tears, the 1990 World Cup finals had it all.
Italia '90 is remembered with great fondness by fans for a host of highlights. Among these were the thrilling emergence of unfancied Cameroon and their ageing star Roger Milla, the most evocative theme music ever known from the BBC with Luciano Pavarotti's Nessun Dorma and an exceptional run from England, culminating in the beautiful game's most famous bit of crying, which made a star of one Paul 'Gazza' Gascoigne.
Meanwhile local football was still going strong in and around Southampton where every striker tried to do a Gary Lineker and every stopper wanted to be Peter Shilton.
