RALPH Hasenhuttl was left pleased with Nathan Redmond's display as a striker against Wolves, admitting a goal would have been "the cherry on the top".
Redmond lined up in an unfamiliar centre-forward berth at Molineux alongside Danny Ings, and came close to finding the net in the second half.
The 26-year-old broke away from the defence and looked set to find the net, only to be denied by John Ruddy one-on-one.
Saints went on to win 2-0 with Stuart Armstrong adding to Danny Ings's earlier strike.
Hasenhuttl opted to name Redmond in the starting XI ahead of both Che Adams and Dan N'Lundulu, who were among the substitutes.
Asked how well he thought the new-look strike-force performed, Hasenhuttl told the Daily Echo: "Very well. It’s interesting with Reddy, up front I like it more sometimes to be honest because he gives me more deep runs and his quality on the ball is always a threat for the opponent I think.
"He had a big chance and it was a pity that he didn’t score, that would’ve been the cherry on the top I think for the good performance.
"But I’m happy to have him back."
