RALPH Hasenhuttl heaped praise on Saints' "lively" performance to see off Bournemouth in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Saints swept aside their south coast neighbours 3-0 at Vitality Stadium thanks to a Nathan Redmond brace and Moussa Djenepo strike.

Hasenhuttl's men will now await tomorrow's draw, to see who they will face at Wembley next month.

"I am definitely happy," said the Saints boss.

"Not only for coming into the next round but also for seeing a performance from my team that was very lively and by far one of the better ones in the past.

"I said in January that now is the time to take this chance (in the FA Cup). It is always a good chance for a smaller club like we are to write history.

"If you are good in the league, and we have been in a very good position, then you can concentrate on the FA Cup. We took the risk.

"That cost us a few injuries in January and February, this was the problem then. Because we were always going with our strongest side against Wolves and against Arsenal to get through.

"But now we get the reward for it and we have a very, very good game at Wembley. It is a highlight for us and it will be for sure a strong opponent there waiting for us, but win one game and everything is possible."

Saints have won just one of their past 12 Premier League matches since defeating Liverpool on January 4, but have impressed in the cup, still yet to concede a goal in the competition.

"We were criticised for our games in the league and this was right, because we were by far not so lively like in the first half of the season in the past weeks.

"I think today we have shown, although it’s only against a Championship team if you want, it was a very, very good mindset we had from the first day on.

"I think they had a game on Tuesday and won 3-0, we had lost (on Sunday), so you never know how good we can come in.

"But I think the message I sent during the week was a very clear one, how important this game is for everybody from us. I think the players showed that there was no doubt that they are leaving everything on the pitch today."
