BOSS Ralph Hasenhuttl rued Saints’ missed chances at Liverpool and insisted: “When you cannot score you cannot take something.”
The St Mary’s side saw big opportunities fall to the likes of Che Adams and Nathan Tella at Anfield but were left to ponder a 2-0 defeat.
Sadio Mane’s first-half header followed by Thiago’s late strike ensured Saints’ miserable 2021 form continued.
Assessing the contest, Hasenhuttl said: “We had big chances, definitely. This is the difference between these two teams.
“One team is two times clinical and we have several chances.
“One against one, winning balls from Alisson Becker when he has the ball at the feet - you can do whatever you want and cannot score.
“This is really very disappointing thing for us and finally, when you cannot score you cannot take something.
“We tried to be brave, we tried to play football, we tried to create things and this looked quite good but in the end you are here with nothing.”
Defeat left the St Mary’s side 16th in the table, with four games of their campaign remaining.
