ON-LOAN Saints youngster Kayne Ramsay has made a great start to temporary life at Crewe Alexandra during tough pre-season but admits “every day after training I’ve had a sleep!”
The 20-year-old right-back has already featured in a couple of pre-season games for the Railwaymen and caught the eye with an impressive assist at Ashton United on Wednesday.
The former Chelsea youngster has already had his first-team breakthrough with Premier League action against both Manchester clubs, but will spend the year developing with the League One side.
Ramsay will have his first opportunity to play in front of his new club’s home fans on Saturday when they welcome top division side Wolves to Gresty Road.
Ahead of the match, he told the club website: “I have spoken to the gaffer and what he wants from me. He wants me to get forward when I can and run in behind and make sure my man doesn’t get in behind me at the other end.

“I want to show my experience and I’m sure I will be able to add to my game as well whilst I am here.
“To play in front of the fans will be amazing. It is always good to play in front of supporters and have that noise. I am really looking forward to and it took a bit of time to get used to playing without them.
“You always prefer that noise and encouragement when you play.”
The London-born athletic full-back was given his first minutes in a Crewe shirt during a pre-season match against Nantwich United, playing 45’ as they ran out comfortable 4-1 winners, immediately impressing with his physicality.
Crewe Alexandra kick their League One season off with a match at home to newly promoted Cheltenham Town on August 7, before travelling to National League play-off winners Hartlepool in the EFL Cup on the Tuesday.
However, Saints fans will be interested to see how Ramsay gets on in Crewe’s first away fixture – a trip to Fratton Park to face Portsmouth on August 14.
With the season getting underway in around three weeks, pre-season has been stepping into gear for EFL clubs, with Ramsay insisting it’s been gruelling but enjoyable.

He added: “I think I am doing well and getting used to everything and what the gaffer wants me to do.
“It was a good experience to play my first game in front of the fans and physically it was good.
“I have settled down really quickly. The dressing room is good and everyone has been welcoming. Everyone is together and everyone gets on well, it has been a good experience.
“The pre-season has been tough but I need it for my legs for the remainder of the season. I am getting used to it but every day after training I’ve had a shower and had a sleep!
“I wanted to come here at the beginning of pre-season and test myself. I didn’t want to come in the middle or at the end and be behind some of the others. I wanted to come out on a season-long loan and get my head down.
“I have not seen my family so obviously I miss them, but hopefully they will be able to come up and watch a game soon.”
