ACCORDING to a new study, only three teams’ fans will have to pay more to follow every game of the upcoming Premier League season than Saints.
The study, which calculates the average home ticket price for each club, away tickets capped at £30 and off-peak train and tube travel to the nearest station to the ground, found Saints fans will spend an estimated £2,950 during the campaign.
Dedicated Saints fans will travel a total distance of 3,036 miles to watch Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men take on the 2021-22 season, starting on August 14 with a trip to Everton’s Goodison Park – a 470 mile round journey.
The study by BettingOdds.com is a comprehensive look at the cost that Premier League fans are having to outlay to follow their clubs, although many will be grateful to have the chance after a year of enforced armchair support.

Only following Newcastle (£3,412.60), Norwich (£3,340) and Brighton (£3,309.90) are estimated to cost more, while London-side Chelsea (£2,851.60) follow Saints close behind.
Unsurprisingly, when it comes to just simply total distance travelled the top three sides remain in the same order but Burnley eclipse Saints, who will travel the fifth largest distance over the season.
However, Saints’ average spend per mile is actually only the 15th largest in the entire division – displaying long distances from the south-coast to be the reason for the considerable cost, with total ticket outlay of £1,219.80 in the lower half of the league.
Saints’ first three away fixtures are that opener against Everton, then longest-distance Newcastle and Manchester City to follow – an expensive start to proceedings for Saints’ faithful.
