SAINTS youngster Caleb Watts came off the bench to help the Olyroos produce a sensational performance and defeat fancied Argentina in their opening game of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Watts, 19, replaced goalscorer Lachie Wales with around 20 minutes still to play before the young Aussies added a second goal ten from time to seal to a crucial 2-0 win.
Olyroos still have to play Spain and Egypt in Group C but have set themselves up for a potential pathway into the knockout stages with a shock victory.
Watts – one of Olyroos’ seven players in English football – played a key role in the later stages of the game when introduced, protecting the lead and keeping his side on the front foot.
Australia play another tough match at the Sapporo Dome against Spain on Sunday July 25 (11:30am BST), before rounding out the group vs Egypt on Wednesday July 28 (12pm BST).
That Caleb Watts is very impressive.
