SAINTS looked a composed side full of ideas in the first 45' of the 2021-22 Premier League season.
The second 45' was a completely different picture, though. Adam Armstrong's emphatic opener was made redundant by Richarlison, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Dominic Calvert-Lewin efforts.
It's the same story of a second-half demise all over again though, with Saints one of the top teams for dropping points from winning positions.
Fans gave their verdict following the match on Twitter - here's what they said:
No1 really expected us to pick up anything today, but the frustration is just that we have seen it all before.

I still believe in Ralph, but he needs to have more tactical flexibility & needs to loss his stubbornness of his 4-2-2-2 when the game changes.
Work to do#Saintsfc
I think we give Ralph until the November international break and see how we’re doing then. We’ll have played a range of different clubs. It’ll be 11 games in and all of our new signing will have had three months to get used to the system. We never do well on opening day #saintsfc

If it wasn’t apparent before today, @SouthamptonFC seriously need a centre half, and not a development player. A starter to go straight into the line up and improve the first 11#SaintsFC

What is the PLAN !?

Don’t see it !?
We need to bring some talented players !!!#SaintsFC
@SouthamptonFC
With quality on the bench, fresh legs should have been on at 1-1. Strange not to have countered oppo ascendancy earlier #saintsfc

For me, Ralph should of gone after the second 9-0. You can’t lose like that once, let alone twice and get away with it! He has though and it’s now at the detriment of the club. He doesn’t think they can get rid of him! Needs a rocket or shown the door. Simple as that #saintsfc

Does Ralph have anyone in his back room staff that can react to what’s happening games if not get them in ffs, we set up well and then fade away, that needs to stop and finding that person may help. #saintsfc

Ralph seems to be a bit stubborn. He keeps making the same mistakes and not learning from them. Yet more points dropped after taking the lead when will he learn from this constant basic errors? #saintsfc

If only Premier league games were a single half of 45 minutes, once the whistle goes for the second half we totally collapse, absolutely nothing learnt at all

Tino and Adam were better than expected today especially first half. But, desperate for a centre back, and maybe a change of formation. Probably both won’t happen, but hopefully a new CB soon! #saintsfc

Remember when before the 14/15 season, we sold half our team& replaced them with nobodies &everyone lost it and thought we’d go down…and we had the best 2 seasons after that we’ve ever had. We’ve been here before…it won’t be as bad as you think it will. We’ll be fine #saintsfc

Armstrong was paid for with the Vestergaard money and will be a brilliant signing for us. But to give ourselves any chance this season we need to spend every single penny of the Ings money on an experienced, established centre back who will hold that back 4 together #saintsfc
