SOUTHERN Brave Women’s had already secured passage to the inaugural final of The Hundred before another victory, over Oval Invincibles, but Amanda-Jade Wellington insisted “we had to put on a display for our crowd.”
Despite being restricted to just 115, their bowlers struck back as the visitors lost their last eight wickets for 21 runs to be dismissed for 85 with six balls to spare.
Bowler Wellington put in an impressive stint to claim four wickets for just 12 runs, helping to settle the affair.
The Invincibles had already secured an eliminator place, though, so the game was for nothing more than pride really – and acted as a potential warm-up for the crucial stages to come, where the two could meet again in the showpiece.
That final will take place at Lord’s on Saturday August 21, and Wellington gave her verdict on the victory, saying: “I thought if we got to 110-115 it was defendable on a wicket like that.
"It was really hard to start on but once (Sophia) Dunkley and a few of the girls got going on that pitch it actually looked like a really good pitch.
"I think you can go into these games with a 50-50 mindset. Some people might think it is a dead rubber but we had to put on a display and put on a show for our crowd as well.
"It was important as well to show we can beat that sort of team as well. We did a fantastic job."
