ADAM Armstrong is looking forward to another St James’ Park return after he graduated from the Toon academy over seven years ago, saying: “I’ve got a lot of family up there who are Newcastle fans, but they’ll be Southampton at the weekend.”
The 24-year-old forward has already faced and scored against his former side with Blackburn Rovers, from which Saints purchased him for £15m, but that was in the FA Cup and now he’s eyeing up a Premier League comeback.
Armstrong opened his account against Everton before Saints held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw at St Mary’s, with ambitions of putting a first win on the board up in the North East.
The last time Saints visited Newcastle a flurry of first-half goals saw Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side sink to a 3-2 defeat, despite strikes from Takumi Minamino and skipper James Ward-Prowse.
Previewing the fixture, Armstrong told the Daily Echo: “Yeah it will be good, obviously I played them at Blackburn twice.
“So it’s something I’m looking forward to, I’ve done it now, been back to St James’ as not a Newcastle player so it’s something I’m looking forward to and yeah I can’t wait.”
Quizzed on whether the stands will be populated with Armstrong fans, friends and family, the forward admitted: “Yeah I’d like to think so.
“I’ve got a lot of family up there who are Newcastle fans, friends as well. But I think they will be Southampton fans at the weekend.”
Saints kick off at St James' Park at 3pm on Saturday August 28.
