SAINTS Women record incredible back-to-back 9-0 victories in the National League after dispatching Hounslow with ease on Sunday.
The week prior, Saints had put nine past Gillingham Women at Snows Stadium before Ciara Watling’s hattrick helped Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side to a consecutive 9-0 result.
An Ella Pusey brace and goals from Leeta Rutherford, Sophie Pharoah, Georgie Freeland and Shelly Provan completed the rout and ensured their stay at the top of the table.
Saints are flying after being awarded promotion during the off-season, following the curtailment of the 2020-21 campaign, and could be on course to reach the Women’s Championship if form continues.
It took Pusey 30 minutes to find the opener for Saints at Hounslow, but once she did the floodgates opened and they found themselves four up by half-time.
Provan’s goal rounded off the win and came with one of the final kicks of the match, as Spacey-Cale’s side kept up the intensity until the very last and were completely ruthless in nature.
After five matches in the league, Saints are top with five wins and a goal difference of 25. Ipswich Town also have fifteen points, but with a ten-fewer GD.
They face a tougher test up next in the league with a first-ever meeting with London Bees at the end of the month.
Before that, Saints will travel to Cheltenham Town in the determining round of the Women’s National League cup on Sunday 12 September (kick-off 2pm).
