SAINTS B team took their heaviest beating yet as the winless run goes on in 2021-22, suffering a 6-0 Premier League Cup demolition at the hands of West Brom.
The Baggies, who are mid-table in Saints’ Premier League 2 Division Two table, completed the rout with two goals from Mo Faal adding to strikes courtesy of Rico Richards, Jamie Andrews, Owen Windsor and Quevin Castro.
The B team were without Dynel Simeu, who the Daily Echo understands has been involved in first team training following the injury of Jack Stephens and could potentially be involved in Ralph Hasenhuttl’s matchday squad this weekend.
But David Horseman did have his captain to welcome back, right-back Oludare Olufunwa, as well as hotly-tipped Caleb Watts starting again – but they added to an immensely young side, that featured a handful of scholars from the off.
Josh Lett, goalkeeper Ollie Wright, young striker Dom Ballard and 15-year-old midfielder Kamari Doyle were among those facing a team of players some up to eight years older than them.
But that won’t stop the feeling of disappointment that it took just two minutes to go behind at AFC Totton’s Snows Stadium, with the final goals being put in just before the full 90’ was up to ensure it was a handling from start to finish.
Saints had picked up a point in the opening PL Cup fixture vs Arsenal, but now face a difficult task to bounce back and qualify for the next round.
