SAINTS fell to a 0-1 defeat at St Mary's against Wolves, who had only picked up three points from five games prior.
It means the search for a first win goes on, and this time in pretty uninspiring fashion.
Not the ideal performance to start my player ratings on, but here goes.
Tell me what you do/don't agree with in the comments below.
Alex McCarthy
6. Didn’t have too much to deal with but made a couple good saves when needed including preventing a Raul Jimenez double at the end, but let himself down with wayward kicking.
Tino Livramento
7. Difficult to fault again, looks confident and assured, could have scored his first Saints goal but was denied by Jose Sa in net.
Jan Bednarek
6. Made some crucial blocks but was twice beaten by Raul Jimenez on his way to scoring the winner.
Mohammed Salisu
6. Showed some good improvements in terms of passing range but was ultimately undone alongside his defensive partner. Looked shaky often when the ball came his way, often failing to get it under control.
Kyle Walker-Peters
7. Was constantly involved in defence and attack and have to say he popped up to stop a lot of Wolves’ creativity for some periods. Impressed by his performance again on the left, looks as though he’s played there plenty.
Oriol Romeu
6. Was the first-half standout despite a couple misplaced passes, tried a volley from serious range but sent it into the back of the away end. Deputised in defence again and was fortunate to not concede in injury time.
James Ward-Prowse
6. Set-pieces were not as dangerous as you’d hope from Ward-Prowse, in some pretty critical moments too.
Moi Elyounoussi
6. Had a couple of efforts on goal and didn’t disgrace himself but on the whole Saints were ineffective going forward.
Nathan Redmond
5. Same as Elyounoussi, but with the added wayward pass and indecisiveness. Subbed after the goal on the 64th minute.
Che Adams
7. Pressing very good from Adams today, still yet to register a first goal of the season but he won the ball back in advanced areas on a couple of occasions that could have led to good chances being created. Was surprised he was subbed, to be honest.
Adam Armstrong
6. Hoped today would be the day the summer signing kickstarted, after his opener at Everton. Instead, he only had a couple of touches inside the area and one was a miskick whilst facing a half-chance at goal.
Subs:
Moussa Djenepo
5. Came on and didn’t create much aside from a couple of aimless deliveries, I think Djenepo offers a lot sometimes but not on this occasion. Fell to the floor easily looking for fouls, fouls that didn’t come.
Armando Broja
5. Difficult to recall any touches of the ball, to be honest. Not the impression he made against West Ham.
Shane Long
5. Had more touches than Broja, and could have even snatched a goal if that miskick from Armstrong fell to him with an inch more space. But overall, Saints had no shape towards the end and looked aimless, I’m not sure if the three strikers on the pitch knew where to stand.
