MOUSSA Djenepo and Mali completed a double-header of victories over Kenya to remain unbeaten in their World Cup qualifying group over the weekend.
Ibrahima Kone’s strike was the only goal of the game in a 1-0 away victory as Djenepo’s international duty came to a close, following on from the 5-0 demolition at the start of the break.
Djenepo was substituted in the 87th minute and saw his nation hold out for a vital win that keeps them two points ahead of Uganda in Group E, with just two games and a clash against the rivals to come on the final matchday in November.
A win vs bottom Rwanda and a draw against Uganda would see Mohamed Magassouba's Mali outfit reach a playoff for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
It rounded off a good weekend for Saints’ players, after goals in victories for James Ward-Prowse and Armando Broja, adding to wins for Che Adams, Stuart Armstrong and Jan Bednarek.
Djenepo will now return to Saints’ Staplewood Campus ahead of Saturday's Premier League contest with Leeds United.
