ALEX McCarthy insists he is “happy here and I’m enjoying my football” as Saints are expected to announce renewed terms for the shot-stopper this season.
The 31-year-old’s contract expires in the summer of 2022, following the conclusion of this Premier League campaign, along with fellow keeper Fraser Forster.
CEO Martin Semmens said this week that he is hopeful the club will announce new contracts of one or two players soon, with the understanding that McCarthy is likely to be one of those.
Former Reading man McCarthy has played every minute of the Premier League so far this season, after he found himself in a battle for the number one shirt at the end of last campaign.

He has paid manager Ralph Hasenhuttl back with some super stops against both West Ham and Man City to earn the first clean sheets of the season, as well as top saves against Wolves – although they didn’t pay dividends on the points front.
Asked about where his future lies, with his deal due to expire in under 12 months, McCarthy said: "Obviously, I am happy here,” continuing, “I am happy at the moment and I am enjoying my football."
But beyond reassuring fans that he is enjoying life as a Saint, he refused to give anything away.
McCarthy added: "When the right time comes I will sit down with the club and speak about it.
"When the time is right, we will go from there. At the moment, I am really enjoying playing regular football."
