ARMANDO Broja has been ruled out of Saints’ visit to Watford at the weekend with an ankle injury.
The Albanian international was seen limping off against Burnley before heading down the tunnel with an ice-pack at full-time, after he had scored Saints’ second goal in the second half.
The strike was his second in two starts after he had previously been limited to action from the substitutes bench.
And now Saints will be without the promising frontman as manager Ralph Hasenhuttl rules him out with a minor injury concern in the pre-match press conference.
It is not thought to be a hugely serious injury but further updates on the Chelsea loanee’s fitness will be given in due course.
Speaking ahead of the game, Hasenhuttl said: “Yeah, I think Broja is not available for the weekend because he had an ankle injury at the Burnley game when he scored the goal.
“He will miss this game for sure.”
He continued: “Prowsey (James Ward-Prowse) is back for the game. On Tuesday we had one or two players who took knocks but not that hard.
“We have a good selection to pick from to get the right team, this is what we need to have.
“One thing is for sure is that we had intense game on Tuesday and we will have an intense game again Saturday, we need a balance of fresh new players but also players with self-confidence.”
It is a big blow for Saints, who went to penalties with Chelsea in the EFL Cup last 16 following a 1-1 draw on Tuesday with both Adam Armstrong and Che Adams starting.
Scottish international Adams hit his first goal of the season and could be a prime candidate to replace Broja in Hasenhuttl’s starting XI.
Summer signing Armstrong hasn’t scored in the Premier League since the first-half of the opening day of the season at Everton, where he put Saints ahead with a wicked finish before a second-half collapse resigned Saints to defeat.
The update should also mean that Moi Elyounoussi, who underwent surgery for a hand ligament injury on Monday, is okay for the weekend's fixture.
