YOUNGSTER Joe Adams has been snapped up by League One Wigan Athletic from Southern League Division One outfit Sholing.
The Guernsey-born midfielder only arrived in England at the start of this season and has already trialled with European champions Chelsea.
Adams, who was dual registered with Sholing and Eastleigh’s academy, will join the Latics on an 18-month deal.
Sholing boss Dave Diaper told the club’s social media: “I am pleased to announce our young first team player, Joe Adams, has been given an 18-month contract with a further 12-month option by League One club, Wigan Athletic.
“This is great news not only for Joe, but for Sholing FC in so much that it has proven a clear pathway from grassroots to professional football.
“Joe travelled from Guernsey to the mainland to gain more attention and his performances for the Boatmen did exactly that.
Joe was given the opportunity to display his ability in the Southern League at the age of 16 and through his dedication, and the club's determination to give the platform to its youth players to show their ability.”
It has been whirlwind few months for the 17-year-old, with Adams called up alongside Sholing and Eastleigh teammate Tom Gruzewski up for England schoolboys in December.
Sholing travel to Slimbridge tomorrow as they continue their push for promotion in a tight title race in England’s eighth tier.
