THERE is to be no 2022 World Cup for Saints stars Che Adams and Stuart Armstrong after Scotland’s 3-1 defeat to Ukraine at Hampden Park.

Forward Adams started the play-off semi-final and completed 90 minutes, while midfielder Armstrong came off the bench during the second-half.

Andriy Yarmolenko and Roman Yaremchuk put Ukraine two goals ahead either side of half-time before Callum McGregor gave the home teama chance with 10 minutes remaining.

But Artem Dovbyk netted with the final touch of the match, well beyond the allotted four minutes of added time, to seal an emotional win for the visitors.

They will now travel to Cardiff to face Wales for a place in the Qatar tournament later this year, on Sunday, June 5.

Scotland still have three fixtures to play during this international break, with Nations League home and away matches versus Armenia, sandwiching a home clash with Republic of Ireland.
