SAINTS youngster Thierry Small enjoyed a successful first outing with England under-18s, as the youngsters won their four-team mini-tournament out in Croatia.

The 17-year-old played his part in all three games for Ryan Garry’s side, including two starts in the opening 3-2 win over Austria and decisive 0-0 draw with the competition hosts on Monday.

Small also featured for 25 minutes in a 2-0 win over British rivals Wales, as the second of his first three caps at England youth level.

Other teams represented in the under-18s include Chelsea, West Ham, Arsenal, Crystal Palace and Leicester City.

The Saints left-back – who arrived with first-team ambitions from Everton last summer – made one appearance for Ralph Hasenhuttl last season.

He played the first 45 minutes of the eventual FA Cup victory over Coventry City but struggled and was taken off at half-time.

Small hopes to be involved again with the first-team during the upcoming pre-season tour to Austria and scheduled friendlies, and could seek a loan move this summer transfer window.

The youngster has two years remaining on his current Saints contract.
