SAINTS are "open to offers" for goalkeeper Alex McCarthy during this summer's transfer window, according to a report by The Athletic.

McCarthy, 32, is understood to have two years remaining on his contract at St Mary's, having signed a new deal last season.

However, he lost his spot to Fraser Forster during the back-end of the 2021-22 campaign, and was on the bench for Saturday's Premier League opener at Tottenham Hotspur, with new recruit Gavin Bazunu preferred.

The Athletic claim McCarthy, who has one senior England cap, could leave Saints this summer, with Premier League clubs interested in his services.

Saints have four senior goalkeepers currently on the books, having extended the contract of Willy Caballero, as well as signing Polish ace Mateusz Lis over the summer alongside Bazunu.

Guildford-born McCarthy, who joined Saints from Crystal Palace in 2016, has made 129 appearances for the club, with 118 of those coming in the top flight.
