RALPH Hasenhuttl rejected the suggestion his Saints side left some in the tank during their 1-0 defeat to Wolves, biting back: “We are not Man City.”
The St Mary’s side were unlucky to leave Molineux without a point after Che Adams had a certain goal disallowed and hit the crossbar with back-to-back headers.
But otherwise, Saints registered just one shot on target in the contest and let Wolves score the solitary goal with relative ease on a first-half added-time counter-attack.
“I haven't seen too many chances from the opponent, we had some good moments where we entered the box and maybe the last pass wasn't there,” Hasenhuttl explained.
The Austrian was asked if his side could have given more, particularly in the flat first-half, and continued: “But no, this is absolutely okay. What do you think?
“We come here and play them off the park? This is a team (Wolves) that have quality, yes they have not won yet before this. We are coming here and we are not Man City."
Asked what he changed with his Saints side to get a stronger foothold in the game following the break, he explained his tweaks involved the full-backs.
Wolves had been rinsing Saints in the channels with pacey wingers Daniel Podence and Pedro Neto looking to supply six-foot six-inch Sasa Kalajdzic.
"We analysed the two situations where we were struggling a bit on the other side, with some late pressure on the guy crossing the ball and then with the goal,” he said.
“This is what we knew, when our full-backs are going, if they are going and the ball is not coming there, it is clear that they were waiting for these moments and they scored the goal.
“This was the only situation where we must be critical; where we gave the goal away in an easy way."
