KYLE Walker-Peters agrees that supporters should be excited by the summer coaching addition of Ruben Selles, insisting: “He’s improved us massively.”
The 39-year-old UEFA Pro Licence former Copenhagen assistant manager arrived as Ralph Hasenhuttl’s number two, following the departure of three first-team coaches.
Selles has now taken on even more responsibilities leading the team on set-pieces, following Alex Clapham’s exit due to personal reasons two months into the role.
Supporters have keenly remarked how Selles is regularly in the technical area, both barking orders at the playing group and in Hasenhuttl’s ear with observations from the first minute.
“He’s really good. From day one, he had me doing goalline clearances,” Walker-Peters told the Daily Echo, of the meticulous Spaniard.

Considering every answer, #SaintsFC's star revealed he wants to be a club captain.
⚪ Work to be vocal in games.
🔴 Speaking up in team meetings.
⚪ Romeu/Bertrand/Redmond inspired.
🔴 Idea from late Ugo Ehiogu.
“I’m talking day one of pre-season, the first time I’ve met him. That’s the type of character he is, he’s really focussed on the defensive side of our game.”
Selles, who has prior experience working in Spain, Norway and Azerbaijan amongst other countries, is also seen mic’d up with in-possession coach Carl Martin, sat with the analysts.
It appears Martin now joins Hasenhuttl and his team in the dugout after Clapham’s exit, but that could still change game-by-game.

A constant is Selles’ influence both on the team and his Austrian boss.
“He’s really vocal, gives a lot of encouragement and is talking 24/7 – which is what I like,” Walker-Peters added.
“He’s really passionate about what he is doing and has improved us massively.”
