THE league season is up and running and it is still early days with the Premier League having only played six games.
But hang on a minute… another manager went last week, with Thomas Tuchel being dismissed from his post at Chelsea.
At first, I read he had walked but then I thought ‘hang on why would he want to leave a club like that?’.
Then the official statement came out that “the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition”.
I would definitely stick up for any manager, even though there is a lot I have not met.
But it has always been difficult - you hope and expect directors to give you time. To have two top-flight managers losing their positions after six games, it does not look right.
When you look at the league table, Chelsea were not that bad. Under Tuchel, they won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup.
They lost in the Champions League last week, but in fact they were in the top six in the Premier League and Tuchel had won three of his six top-flight games, losing two. One of those losses, of course, came against Saints at St Mary’s
Brendan Rodgers at Leicester is now one of the favourites with the bookmakers to either walk out or be pushed out the door.
I don’t know him personally but in the past he has certainly enjoyed being praised – let’s see how he handles the criticism you get when you have the league position he is in at present.
As a manager, you have to learn to live with criticism – and to be fair you got much more of that than praise!
There are only a few managers who can be in cup finals or fighting in the top six of the league on a regular basis.
But getting back to Leicester, they have spent hardly any money in comparison to any other teams in the league.
Looking further at league positions, Saints are sitting alongside our neighbours down the road at Bournemouth.
Of course, Scott Parker was critical of a lack of signings as well as the quality of his players. I would not be too surprised if their results keep improving, like their victory at Nottingham Forest.
Forest, who are always in my mind because of my friendship with legend Brian Clough, have signed no fewer than 21 players! I imagine it would have been quite noisy in the dressing room when they lost the previous weekend.
I keep an eye on them because I think they will finish higher than second-from-bottom but who knows when you see big clubs like Leicester and Everton down there.
There is plenty to keep an eye on, plenty of new players arriving in the league. I am sure supporters will all be looking forward to supporting their teams.
