BURNLEY boss Vincent Kompany confirmed on-loan Nathan Tella was forced off through injury, during his side’s 1-1 Championship draw at Preston on Tuesday.
The talented forward, who joined the Clarets from Saints on a season-long deal in the summer, limped off after 73 minutes at Deepdale.
Burnley also lost Charlie Taylor during the Lancashire Derby, with the defender’s issue said to be more of a problem than that of Tella.
Speaking to the Burnley Express post-match, former Manchester City star Kompany said: "Nathan Tella and Charlie Taylor, if I have to rank both injuries, I think Charlie Taylor is slightly more concerning than Nathan Tella.”
Former Arsenal youngster Tella has been a hit at his loan club, having scored three times in eight appearances.
He was one of 16 new faces brought in by Kompany during the summer transfer window, following Burnley’s relegation from the Premier League.
"When we tried to recruit and build our squad we tried to understand that this is what can happen in this league,” said the Burnley boss.
"It is key because every team in this league is going to face injuries and challenges because of the nature of this league. It is not really designed for health!
"It is designed to be gruelling and demanding and for that reason you need a squad. I am at least confident we are not losing momentum because of injuries and we have new players to look at.
"There'll be some teams that are equipped for it and there are some teams that aren't and that can clip your wings a little bit. In our case we hope we recover them as soon as we can, but it's a chance for the next one to go out and show how good they are."
Burnley’s next clash comes at home against Bristol City on Saturday.
