SAINTS skipper James Ward-Prowse believes team-mate Kyle Walker-Peters “deserves” a place in the England squad, with the World Cup looming this winter.
Both midfielder Ward-Prowse and full-back Walker-Peters will hope to be announced in Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad tomorrow, for Nations League clashes with Italy and Germany later this month.
Former Tottenham man Walker-Peters made his England debut earlier this year when he featured in friendlies against Switzerland and the Ivory Coast.
And Ward-Prowse, who has 11 caps and two goals at senior international level, believes Walker-Peters has earned another chance.
Asked whether it would be a statement for Saints if both he and Walker-Peters could make the World Cup, Ward-Prowse told the Daily Echo: “It would.
“I see how hard he (Walker-Peters) works every day in training and the levels he performs to.
“For me, he deserves it and hopefully, come the announcement, he will be in.”
Right-back Walker-Peters, who can also operate on the left, has not missed a minute for Saints in the Premier League this season.
England kick off their World Cup campaign against Iran at Khalifa International Stadium on Monday, November 21.
Asked how special it would be for himself and Walker-Peters to reach Qatar as a pair, the Saints skipper added: “Yeah it would. I think when you go to England, of course you are representing them but you are also representing the club.
“To have two of you there would be extra special and we will have to see what the squad announcement is.
“But we are obviously all behind Kyle and hopefully he gets in as well.”
