TWO ex-Saints strikers did their bit to help their old club last night.
James Beattie netted as Sheffield United came back from 2-0 down to hold Sheffield Wednesday - and keep them below Saints in the table. And Kevin Phillips's two goals helped West Brom recover from a goal down to win 3-1 at Blackpool, another of Saints' relegation rivals.
West Brom boss Tony Mowbray lauded Phillips after the striker helped put his side top of the Championship.
The Baggies were heading for an FA Cup hangover following their Wembley heartbreak against Portsmouth, but scored three times in the last nine minutes to win 3-1.
Mowbray said: "We looked very drained after our defeat at Wembley. I wanted to keep Kevin Phillips back just in case we needed him - and we did."
