NIGEL Pearson admitted to feeling a twinge of disappointment despite a good performance and a decent result at Charlton.
Saints drew 1-1 at The Valley and have given themselves a real chance of pulling clear of the bottom three if they can beat Burnley at St Mary's on Saturday.
But after seeing his side lead for much of the game Pearson had mixed feelings about the result.
He said: "Winning games at any stage of the season but particularly this stage of the season is more beneficial but it was important not to lose once we conceded the equaliser.
"There were a lot of positives again and it was fantastic to see the number of fans behind the goal giving us fabulous support from the warm-up to the end and I'm glad they went away with something.
"It's obviously disappointing once you go in front not to win it but it would be very unfair on them to suggest they didn't deserve to get something from it.
"It was two sides very keen to win the game so it was a decent game.
